I’ve only given a talk about QTR a few times. The first three times were at small gatherings where I had planned in advance to take the time to share the QTR philosophy with the group. The three times were:
⁃ A family and friend trip to the Big Island of Hawaii
⁃ A company ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado with my son Lucas and some of the executives of the company I was working with at the time, Angel Oak Home Loans
⁃ On a week long helicopter ski trip at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing in BC Canada
⁃ At the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club, where I have been a member since 1985
⁃ At our BNI business networking group At the first 3 of these events, I made a special QTR hat to give out as a lasting memory of the time we spent together and of Quality Time Remaining.
The most recent time I spoke about QTR was at my Rotary Club (I’ve been a member since we chartered the club in 1985). It was recorded, so I thought I would post it here.
I think that the QTR lens is a valuable lens. It isn’t the only lens to view the world, but it is a lens that can inform one what to do with the precious moment we have in front of us. It can inform us how to make today valuable and meaningful. It can increase the number and percentage of days that are meaningful and memorable. It can remind us to do things that bring us joy. It can remind us to be here now in the moment. It can help us to make choices to say yes, and not just say yea, but to also decide to make the opportunity amazing. QTR is a lens that can have us shift to having more days where we look for and find the good in others and share those virtues with them.
What do we do with the day we have? What do we do with our one brief life? Let’s not forget to make every day meaningful and memorable, to maximize fun and adventure, and to make time for the things that bring you joy.
